Cup Winners!!

  Monday 24th April 2017

Cup Winners!!

Saturday saw us play our final game of the season on a warm Spring day at Louth Town's ground in Saltfleetby.  For the 7th time this season we faced Sutton Rovers - a team we've had some fantastic contests with over the course of the season.

The game could not have had much more in the way of drama - phantom goals, shuddering tackles, injuries last-gasp penalties and finally penalties to decide. The game hinged on three events more than anything - a 'goal' United thought we'd scored late in the game which was ruled to be a free kick.  This was after both teams had lined up to take the kick-off both assuming the goal had stood.  With a few minutes of extra time remaining, Jack Minor in the United goal saved a penalty from Sutton to send the game to penalties.  After both teams scoring their first 6, United scored their 7th which put the weight of the game on Sutton.  Yet again, Jack Minor saved a penalty to send the United contingent wild and secure our second trophy of the season!

Today saw us win 2-0 away against a strong Chapel side who were looking to continue their undefeated run to 7 games. Our win, with goals from Zak Bray and John Courtney, along with a defeat for Sutton Rovers sees us crowned League Champions.
